Decentralized Finance (DeFi) Roundtable 2024

 

You are kindly invited to the Center for Innovative Finance's "DeFi Roundtable" on September 9, 2024.

Join us for this half-day event, as we dive into the evolving world of DeFi ecosystems, taking a closer look at today’s control structures, governance, and regulation. The event will address the different layers of DeFi separately. In the first session, the focus is on blockchain networks, platform aspects and the settlement function. In the second session, we focus on financial assets and protocols deployed through smart contracts, explore various options and regulatory approaches. The sessions start with input presentations by experts from regulatory bodies, industry, and academia, followed by a panel discussion.

Session 1 - Blockchain Networks

Prof. Dr. Cesare Fracassi
Director of the Blockchain Initiative and Professor of Finance at the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin. His research focuses on decentralized finance, fintech, and the impact of blockchain technologies on financial markets and he regularly advises regulatory bodies and industry leaders on DeFi-related issues.

Dr. Tommaso Mancini-Griffoli
Division Chief of the Payments, Currencies, and Infrastructure division at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) leading research on monetary policy and digital currencies. His work focuses on the impact of fintech innovations and policies on international financial and monetary systems and stability.

Managing Director of the Center for Innovative Finance and Professor of Distributed Ledger Technology and Fintech at the University of Basel. His research focuses on blockchain applications including DeFi, and the intersection of technology and finance, contributing to academic and practical advancements in the field.

Affiliate lecturer at the University of Cambridge (Law), with a background in law and economics, corporate finance and company law. Her research focuses on the regulatory and policy aspects of digital assets and DLT, in particular of DeFi.

Head of the Fintech Desk at the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority (FINMA) authorizing and supervising institutions in the fintech space.
