Prof. Dr. Pascal Gantenbein

Pascal Gantenbein, MRICS, is the Henri-B.-Meier professor of Financial Management at the University of Basel. He also serves as the Dean of Studies at University of Basel’s Faculty of Business and Economics. His academic interests are in the areas of corporate finance and valuation, portfolio management and risk management, as well as real estate finance and venture capital. He was a founding member of the Swiss Start-up Monitor and is the editor-in-chief of the academic journal “Die Unternehmung – Swiss Journal of Business Research and Practice”.

Before joining faculty in Basel, he was an assistant professor at the Swiss Institute of Banking and Finance at University of St. Gallen. Furthermore, he was a visiting professor at HEC Paris, the University of Geneva (HEC Genève), the University of the Witwatersrand’s Wits Business School in Johannesburg, South Africa, and HEC Montréal, Canada, and he had visiting positions at the University of Southern California (USC), Los Angeles, UCLA’s Anderson School of Management, the Indian Institute of Management in Bangalore (IIMB), India, and the Maastricht University School of Business and Economics.

In addition, Pascal Gantenbein gained valuable work experience in the insurance industry and as a financial advisor. Today, he also acts as a board member in the financial sector. Pascal Gantenbein is a professional member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS). He graduated in 1995 and received his Ph.D. in 1999 from the University of St. Gallen. In 2004, he received his postdoctoral lecture qualification (Habilitation), also from the University of St. Gallen.
